Terrific Tourist Attractions in Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer, the majestic city hewn from golden-yellow stone, derives its name  from its founder Maharawal Jaisal Singh, a Rajput king in 1156 A.D.   The term “Jaisalmer” translates into “the Hill Fort of Jaisal”.

Tourist Attractions in Jaisalmer abound, further enhancing the appeal of this mainly desert city with its intricately sculptured houses and Jain temples.   Jaisalmer Fort, which dominates the city, was built in 1156 A.D. by the Bhati Rajput ruler Jaisal  and is situated on Meru Hill.
Named Trikoot Garh, this impressive Fort with its massive sandstone walls, which  are a tawny lion colour during the day, turning into a magical honey-gold in the mellifluent rays of the setting sun, has stood silent witness to many fierce battles.   Not merely a historical fort but a living fort where about a quarter of the city’s population still lives, the chief attractions inside this formidable edifice include the Raj Mahal or Royal Palace, beautiful Jain temples and the Laxminath temple.
