Gorgeous Gadsisar Lake Rajasthan

Jaisalmer, an intrinsic part of the Great Indian Desert, draws the curious cosmopolitan visitor, eager to experience a colossal slice of its cultural feast and the inveterate domestic traveller, keen on keeping in touch with his enriching heritage, almost magnetically to its pulsating heart, cocooned in the vast embracing desert sands of Rajasthan.

The picturesque Gadsisar Lake Rajasthan, a man-made reservoir and the region’s only source of precious aqua, is located on the outskirts of Jaisalmer city, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.   Built by Maharawal Gadsi in the 14th century, this rain water conservation lake is surrounded by many small temples and shrines.   And, in winter, constitutes an ornithologist’s delight, when a wide variety of water and rare migratory birds can be seen here.

The beautiful gateway known as Tillon ki prol, which arches across the road down to the lake, was built by a royal courtesan named Tillon at the end of 19th century.   An idol of Lord Vishnu was installed on the gate by a courtesan and declared as the Krishna Temple in 1908 A.D.to save it from demolition by the then Maharwal..
Artistically carved Chattris, temples, shrines and ghats, verdant gardens surround the banks of this lake, making it an ideal picnic spot.   Famous for boating, from here you can capture the “substance and the splendor” of the Jaisalmer Fort, glinting golden in the munificent rays of the sun.

Ensconced comfortably in luxurious Jaisalmer accommodation with well-appointed rooms loaded with amenities, savor the cultural heritage of Jaisalmer wholeheartedly!
