National Park in Jaisalmer and Other Places To See in the Desert Country

The National Park in Jaisalmer is not only the largest one in the state, but also in the country as well. The wildlife protected in this sanctuary is quite rare and also special to this mostly arid environment. The location of the park is about 40 kilometers away from the main city. The proximity to Bharatpur has transformed it into a bird watcher’s paradise as well. A host of migratory birds come to these parts and one can have an eyeful of these winged creatures during their visit to this Desert Park.
The best time for sightings and as such a safari inside the park is during the months between November-March. Besides the abundance of flora and fauna inside the park there are other spots to see as well including a number of lakes. Some of these are Rajbaugh Lake, Padam Talao and Milak Lake. Visitors to this area can go for safaris, camel rides, bird watching opportunities along with nature treks in this beautiful area.
Some of the animals one can sight during their visit include black bucks, Chinkaras, wolves, foxes and wild cats. Also there are birds to be seen including sand grouse, larks and partridges.
Besides the Desert Sanctuary another of the major attraction of this Rajasthan city is the Jaisalmer fort. This structure was built in 1156 and bears testimony to the glorious part of this region. It is centrally situated in the very heart of the city and this region has more or less grown around it.
